Chuck Palahniuk - Fight Club

This is one of those very rare cases where I preferred the movie version over the book, but there were still some very quotable lines in the book that I liked.

---

You do the little job you're trained to do.
Pull a lever.
Push a button.
You don't understand any of it, and then you just die.

Crying is right at hand in the smothering dark, closed inside someone else, when you see how everything you can ever accomplish will end up as trash.
Anything you're ever proud of will be thrown away.

This was freedom. Losing all hope was freedom.

This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time.

One minute was enough, Tyler said, a person had to work for it, but a minute of perfection was worth the effort. A moment was the most you could ever expect from perfection.

I just don't want to die without a few scars, I say.

The gyms you go to are crowded with guys trying to look like men, as if being a man means looking the way a sculptor or an art director says.

When I pass people in the hall at work, I get totally ZEN right in everyone's hostile little FACE.
Worker bees can leave
Even drones can fly away
The queen is their slave.

Only after disaster can we be resurrected.

At Tyler's other job, at the Pressman Hotel, Tyler said he was nobody. Nobody cared if he lived or died, and the feeling was fucking mutual.

You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are the same decaying organic matter as everyone else, and we are all part of the same compost pile.

When deep-space exploration ramps up, it will probably be the metatonic corporations that discover all the new planets and map them.
The IBM Stellar Sphere.
The Philip Morris Galaxy.
Planet Denny's.
Every planet will take on the corporate identity of whoever rapes it first.

That old saying, about how you always kill the thing you love, well, it works both ways.

  1. I really do need to watch this movie again sometime but I'll wait so we can watch it together :)

I really love the quote about your life ending one minute at a time. It's kind of depressing to think about but I guess that's the point. Get up and do what you want to do instead of sitting around wasting time because you're not going to be alive forever.
